Psalm Chapter 11. God is our refuge.
Verse 1 declares God as the place of “refuge.”
Do we really believe that? God wants to be that place of shelter or protection for us from all dangers, distress, or oppression.
In Matthew chapter 11: 25-30 it says,
“25At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
27All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.
28Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jesus declared that all who are weary and burdened to come to him. Jesus wants to be that place of refuge. He wants to give us rest. Jesus prayed in verse 25 to God as the FATHER and LORD of heaven and Earth. So should we also pray to God as our FATHER and recognize him as LORD over heaven and Earth, which means he has dominion over all things. We can claim dominion and power and strength in all situations especially from our FATHER who loves us.
In verse 27 Jesus let it be known that God has entrusted all things into his hands. So we can come to Jesus for rest:
1. Rest for our souls! For the yoke of the law is a burden to us. We can't keep the law. We always fail. But the yoke of Jesus is not the law but grace and mercy. His yoke saves us. It's not a burden, for it is a welcome and comfort of love and salvation.
2. Rest for our minds. The burden of life can be overwhelming and discomforting, but we can put total reliance on Jesus, the one whom God entrusted Lordship over all things!  Jesus can himself give us rest and take away our burdens that destroy our minds and heart. We can rest in Jesus and find refuge from the overwhelming feeling of life that wears us down and beat us up. We can find Hope in Jesus for tomorrow. We can find peace, the peace that calms our mind. To have the peace of God is to have faith or confidence that it's going to be okay!
I'd much rather take refuge in Jesus than worry and fret over my life. God help me to truly take refuge in you, my loving FATHER, who is Lord over all things!
