Blessings to you all! Deuteronomy chapter 32.
Moses recites the words of a song for the Israelites. The song basically reinforces everything Moses has been saying to the people:
1. A reminder of God's power & Deliverance.
2. It speaks of rebellion.
3. It speaks of vengeance.
4. It speaks of atonement.
I find it interesting that a song is what God has Moses present to the people as one of the last things he does before he dies.
I'm not saying I'm surprised I think it's easy to forget how powerful songs can be in helping us learn truths about God. Songs are used in secular and Christian realms for teaching lessons or values both good and bad.
I'm reminded of a story book that I read to the girls all the time. It had a little rhyme/singing to it. I still remember many of the words. “There's a cow in the road and it sure is a shock when I first wake up at 7 o clock.”
The girls loved the book and they knew the words for each page even though they couldn't read it.
I learned the book of the Bible from a song. Even now, when I recite the books of the Bible, the song still goes in my head. There are many songs I remember learning that have taught me many of God's Truths.
The important thing isn't what words of the songs have I learned, but rather, what Truths about God from the songs am I actually living out in my life?
The song in chapter 32 reminded of the song that Moses and the people sang back in Exodus 15. Here’s the first 2 verses of that chapter: Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,
“I will sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider He has thrown into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my song,
and He has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise Him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”
V 11,12 – I love the reference to the eagle.
The story of an eagle raising her baby is a wonderful parallel to how God raises us – his children. The eagle designs the nest so that the sticks point inward; the fatter the baby gets as he grows, the more uncomfortable his comfy nest gets. When he is old enough, the mother eagle shakes the nest so that the baby falls out. As he sinks towards the ground in fear, the mother scoops him up on her back and puts him back in the nest. This continues day after day until the baby learns to fly and wonders at the incredible freedom he now has. Sometimes we get too comfy in our lives and God has to shake us up so we learn to soar as He intended.
One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 40:31.
Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
A great-niece wrote that in chalk on my driveway at camp. That picture and the verse are etched in my memory so I can pull it out when I need it.
