Exodus chapter 12.
God declared in the past He would deliver the Israelites from the Egyptians. 430 years later and it finally happened. This is a reminder that when we ask God for his intervention and answer to our prayer that his timing is better than our timing. I think it is dangerous to expect God to answer immediately. In those days of waiting it is an opportunity to grow spiritually and develop in strength, character, integrity and see God work his power and work in the hearts of even other people. Gods answered prayers may come quickly but we can't expect him to work in our timing when his timing is best.
There is so much that could be said about this chapter! It’s almost as if God is having the Israelites hit a reset button and making this a new starting point as He is setting them free! He wants them to always remember it and gives them very specific directions to follow. We see how all of the Israelites are saved by the blood of the lamb, but how it was so sad for the Egyptians as all of their houses had at least one person who died there that night. What a great reminder for us about how each person needs to be covered by the blood of Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God in order to be saved from the punishment for sin.
Isn’t it a blessing to read this chapter during Easter week. An innocent lamb was slain as a sacrifice to save us from death as well.
I love how God reveals different things in his Word to us at different times in our spiritual growth – no matter how many times we may have read the same passage. I don’t think it ever sunk in before that the Israelites ate the Passover feast while dressed for travel. They didn’t even wait for the bread to rise. That was truly a sign of faith and a reminder to me to be prepared for the Lord’s promises. As Christians, the Lord’s supper is our Passover remembrance of the Lamb that was slain and rose again so that we have a new life and freedom from sin. Thank you, Jesus!
in this chapter killing the first born, very sad…but very real. but they were warned, and so are we. And as exciting it must be for the Israelites to be free, i’m sure there was a little bit of .. “ok now what”?
I have been praying and waiting for God to answer me with my family and our struggles, not 430 years, but at times seems like that long. I still have to fix some of my flaws, but Gods love helps me be patient.
Doing this bible study with all of you is helping me to learn and understand so much! I have a “revelation” today with one of my favorite songs, Revelation song. I have always loved singing it, but am now realizing the first lyric, Worthy is the lamb who was slain, finally makes more sense to me. Thinking about all the death in Egypt does make me sad, but I understand it. And I know it is what had to have happened for the Israelites to be able to go and worship the Lord. Sometimes in my heart I feel sadness and empathy, even for those who do wrong, when they face tragedy. I am not sure if it is a flaw that I have or it’s a trait to embrace…
