I am SO EXCITED to see how we have together and worked through the first book of the Bible. Let that be a reminder to us that we can do this! I'm so proud of each and every one of you for being in God's word. I feel we have all learned and grown from this experience and look forward to what more God is going to do in and through our lives!
Here we go!
Exodus chapter 1:
As I read this I admired the midwives who were willing to obey God rather than the king. The Midwives valued life because they knew God valued life. It's like today. We have those who do not value life but are quick to destroy a baby in its mother's womb. We also have people who hate others and allow that hate to grow into murder because they do not value life but their own. We have those who see elderly people as a great inconvenience and are fighting for euthanasia. It seems people fail to see that we are all created by God and in His image and we have a soul and a purpose for our lives. We are valuable and we need to treat others as such. The world wants to define how we are supposed to live but like The Midwives we must obey God's laws and ways over any human law. We need the eyes and heart of Jesus who did not wish that any perish but that all might come to know him. We must be concerned for each person, not just physically, but spiritually. We should not want any to be on a path that goes to hell but rather love them in such a way that their lives physically and spiritually might be saved. Granted we may not want to kill anybody but Jesus said if we hate someone it's murder. We must bring into submission our heart and attitude before the Lord so that we reflect his love and light in a dark and hurting world.
Amen, PB! The midwives story also touched me. Whenever we are asked to disobey God’s Word by those in authority over us – whether government, spiritual leaders, family members, or friends – we must obey God rather than man.
I also admire the midwives for the strength and courage they showed. They put their own lives at risk to save the lives of newborn boys. The pharaoh is using his want for power and importance to justify murder! I hope when I am called, I have the ability to stand up for what is right even when that means risking something important. Because in the end, only God will judge us!
I had that “they lived happily ever after” feeling as Genesis ended, but now things have certainly changed as the relationship between the Egyptians and the Israelites has turned sour over the many years. There’s a new king over Egypt who doesn’t know Joseph, but instead sees the Israelites as a threat. The midwives feared God and He blessed them for not killing the baby boys. May we also stand up for what is right and honor God in this generation in which we live!
Since there are 1,189 chapters in the Bible and ApologetiX has released 54 cds at this point with about 700 parodies so far, there aren’t enough songs yet to match up one per chapter for the whole Bible even though more songs are being produced every month. I shared 50 for Genesis, but I’m going to do it a little different for Exodus since there isn’t one for every chapter. We’ve talked a lot about “civil disobedience” in Sunday school and about when it becomes necessary to disobey someone in authority because they have made a “law” that is in direct contrast to what God has told us to do. There are many examples in the Bible and the Hebrew midwives is just one of them. They were willing to put themselves at risk to follow God’s way.
