God had promised to Abraham and Sarai that they would have a child and not just a child but a generation of children very numerous in numbers. It's funny how when things don't go as we think they should, or at the speed that we think it should, it's easy to want to take things in our own hands. I like to see results today so I don't have to wait till tomorrow. If I don't see results today then it should motivate me to be in prayer more with God so that I trust him rather than try and trust myself.
Patience truly is an important element of our faith walk. In fact it's one of the fruits of the spirit. So Lord help me to be patient in ministry here at camp and trust you to touch the lives that you want to touch in your timing.
God’s plans are always the best plans even when we don’t understand what He may be doing at the time. It can be tempting to speed things up on our own sometimes to try to get the results that we want in certain situations, but then we usually find out that the results would have been even better if we would have just waited on the Lord instead of leaning on our own understanding. One of my favorite passages from the Old Testament is Proverbs 3:5-6 even though I’m still not an expert. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

I love those verses, but not always easy to follow!
I found this comment on social media once and loved it … “God is still writing my story – I need to stop trying to pick up the pen.”
“Sarai” means “contentious”. In trying to give God a hand with His promise, Abram and Sarai unwittingly gave birth to the Middle East tension that exists to this day.
This reading is a reminder that we must trust in God’s timing. He knows the path we will take and He lays it out before us. If we try to take things into our own hands, especially when doing that results in sin (adultery in this case) there will be heartbreaking consequences. It is not always easy to wait and trust in God’s timing, but we must!
