Here we read how the Israelites wanted to make a name for themselves. And as a result of their pride, God confused their language which resulted in them being scattered over all the Earth. The people were no longer trying to build a tower.
It all started when they were trying to make a name for themselves. Pride seems to settle in so easily. I want my motives to be pure and right. I have to check myself to make sure that what I do is for Gods glory and not my own!

It’s never a good idea to try to make a name for ourselves instead of doing what God has told us to do. Proverbs 16:18 tells us that pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

If you are doing what is acceptable to God, He will make your name known…..and you might never even realize it.
Thank you for the video links Jim! I love watching them. I actually never knew of this story from the Bible. Very interesting and a reminder to leave our pride and live humbly.
Thanks Sarah. I was hoping that the video links would be a blessing to others, but I really didn’t know if anyone would actually even take the time to watch them. Thanks for doing that. I’m glad that you like them and it’s an encouragement to me.
I think this one all comes down to attitude and motive. It shows what we are capable of when we are working together and united in cause, but their motive was to glorify themselves.
When I was younger (a few years back), chapters like this with so much genealogy confused me. Why did God include all this information? Like many things, once I take “me” out of the equation it makes sense. Everyone didn’t have access to the written Word like I do in this generation. Even in Jesus time, most of the Bible was either passed down orally through the generations or read in the synagogues from the scrolls (Torah). Saying the names of their ancestors out loud was a way the Jewish people remembered and honored those who came before them. Even today, genealogy is important in the Jewish culture.
