| Jeremiah Chapter 44. Do you have a lucky charm? Good morning everyone! God confronts the people of Egypt including those who moved there from Judah. He says just as Judah suffered great disaster for worshiping false gods, so the same will occur to Egypt for worshiping false gods. Their defense was: when we worship our god, we are blessed. When we don't worship our god, we aren't blessed. I see such attitudes today. People live based upon feelings, emotions, and life circumstances. If they were wearing green socks when they won their sporting event, then they make sure they wear the same green socks at their next competition. Rather than give glory to God, people want to give glory to other people or things, or to themselves. It's like worshiping a false god. I pray to Buddha today and I got a check in the mail for $100. Rather than contribute that as a blessing from the Lord, they give glory to a false god. Not being a Christian does not mean God won't love you and not do good things for you. You can pray to false gods and have your superstitions all you want, and that won't erase the fact that God loves you. He's still will do good for you in hopes you'll recognize his love and turn from evil and follow him. But instead we give glory to our superstitions or to a false god, or we take all the credit for all our accomplishments. Just as God warned the people in Egypt that such excuses and practices won't save them but cause disaster to fall upon them, so he's pleading with us to surrender our hearts to him and change our ways, or face the consequences from God. He loves us very very much! Let's give him our all! |
