| Jeremiah Chapter 39. “I told you so!” The IF-Then came to pass. Jeremiah has been saying for years that IF the people didn't repent, THEN disaster will fall on them . Also IF the people didn't surrender to Babylon, THEN disaster would fall on them. In this chapter, it came to pass. It reminds me of the “I told You So” moments when I was growing up. “I told you it was going to happen but you wouldn't listen!” Disaster came but with God's love comes a message of Hope. God says I will again rescue you and restore you because you will trust me again. When we get upset with someone for what they do or say, we say mean words as we try and get revenge, or we fight them, and our motivation is not love but hate. And we don't care what happens to the other person. But God is different. If we do evil, he is motivated by love to restore us. He'll let us suffer the consequences of our life choices and when we suffer we feel like there is no hope. But God's love always provides hope in a hopeless situation. He declares that he will one day restore Judah when they put their trust back into him. When disaster hits us, God's love is never failing. He's already at work to prepare the way to restore us and use us again in ministry. This is probably the hardest thing for me to accept. If I do something really stupid and end up hurting my wife or a friend or family member, then I beat myself up and let the devil beat me up and tell me I'm no good and I'm not worthy enough. We have to get past this hurdle! God loves us so much and wants to restore us and and use us again in Ministry. The “I told you so” is a comment we don't like to hear when we do something wrong. But let me try and use it in a positive sense: ” ‘I told you so' that IF you mess up, THEN there's always hope in the Lord!” |
