Isaiah chapter 58. Going through the motions.
Israel was all about acting religious yet their hearts were far from God. Their fasting was supposed to result in dependence upon God and brokenness and humility. Instead they were still very selfish in their focus and did not respond to the needs of those around them. God said He would not hear their prayers because they were so self focused. God said seek me in your righteousness. Meet the needs of the hungry, the oppressed, the poor and the naked. Then I will hear your prayers and satisfy your needs and strengthen you and grant you restoration and you will find my joy.
God I don't want to go through the motions. Help me to be genuine with my faith and my commitment. Help me to be conscious of the needs of those around me and to respond in humility as a humble servant. First, may my heart and my life change for you, then might I be a humble servant that loves on others.
