Proverbs chapter 12. What did you say???
I would like to highlight a few verses from this chapter.
Vs 1 says if you love discipline then you love knowledge.
Makes sense because discipline, if done properly, helps point people in the right direction and gives insight and knowledge of Truth so one can become more productive with their lives.
The rest of the verse says if you hate correction or discipline you're stupid.
Ouch! Is that supposed to hurt?
Verse 13 kind of goes along with verse 1. It says that a fool thinks their ways are right, so will listen to No one. But A wise person listens to advice.
Vs 16 says that a fool is quickly annoyed (I added… Hot headed or angered), but The prudent overlooks insult.
I remember after a high school football game, our team got beat, and as I walked past the opposing team's bus, a kid yelled out “your team sucks!”
I could have gotten into a war of words and acted like a jerk but instead I just agreed with him. I said, “Yeah you're right. Our team does suck. Your team did a good job beating us.” I just kept agreeing with him which put an end to his “big mouth” without me getting hot headed. Sadly I haven't always responded so wisely.
Vs 18 and vs 25 talk about the power of words. It says the tongue of a fool hurts people but the tongue of a wise person brings healing. Anxiety can weigh a person's heart downward, but kind words can cheer them up.
I think we can all think of times when we needed words of encouragement. When that one person says what we need to hear, it feels real good. When somebody suffers from anxiety, they need somebody to talk to.  They need to hear kind and encouraging words.
CHALLENGE: What can you say today that would encourage another?
And be careful how you respond to the words of others. Be wise not a fool.
Have a good day!
