Proverbs Chapter 1. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
The introduction of Proverbs lets the reader know they are about to hear many words of wisdom that will enhance their lives for gaining insight and understanding. The number one advice Proverbs 1 gives, before you can obtain true wisdom, is the fear of the Lord.
We all have certain life experiences that have helped us learn and help us gain wisdom and insight. Often times they are painful times but end up being a benefit for someone else we know who goes through what we have already gone through. Now we can share our life with them in hopes of encouraging them to persevere or encourage them to not make some of the same bad mistakes.
But how many of us, in all the wisdom we share with others, do we teach others to fear the Lord? Wisdom that comes from God is wisdom that points us toward making Holy decisions. Not giving into peer pressure. Not listening to the devil whispering in our ears.
To fear the Lord is to have a respect for his judgement against evil and a respect for his love to truly help us do right through the power of His Holy Spirit.
CHALLENGE: On this adventure into the Book of Proverbs, are you ready to learn great wisdom from the Lord so you stay on the right path of Holiness? Or do you prefer hanging on to what chapter one says in maintaining your selfish ways; doing that which fulfills your desires versus the desires of the Lord?
Please, let us approach The Book of Proverbs with an open heart and with a fear for the Lord so we listen intently to what is being said.
I'm looking forward to this new adventure with you!
