Psalms Chapter 146. In Whom or What am I putting my Hope and Trust?
Good morning men! Know that I pray for you guys on a consistent basis and value your friendships immensely!
The psalmist states in verses 3-5 that putting our hope and trust in anyone other than the God who created us, is very unwise. Perhaps the term that is best used here is “very stupid.” Sadly it's a trap that is very easy to fall into.
Though I feel it is very important to be the best at what we do, it is dangerous to fall into the thinking where we start using the word “I” more than we use the word “God.”
If only I can accomplish this goal at work then I can move up. If only I can impress this one person, then I can make more money. If only I… If only I… If only I….
From that you also see how equally dangerous it is when we feel our success is contingent upon the perception of other people or the pursuit of other things.
Our greatest success is our OBEDIENCE to the Lord. God's ways and plans may not make sense, especially from the world's standards, but it's the most fulfilling. There's a joy and peace that comes with it. Putting hope and trust in people or things always leaves us searching for that which will fill the emptiness inside. Pursuing anything other than God to fulfill the emptiness is to pursue other people or things, it's putting hope and trust in something other than the Lord.
I'm not saying God won't call some to be great business people, smart & rich, using what God's given them for his glory, because it happens.
We have to examine our own hearts before the Lord. What or who am I pursuing and putting my hope and trust in? Contentment and fulfillment comes only in and through Christ. What do I need to surrender to the Lord today? My will? My control? My gifts? My Broken pieces?  My Insecurities?  My Fears?  My doubts?  What's keeping you from receiving all God has for you?
