Psalms Chapter 143. True faith in God.
The psalmist cries out to God in his time of trouble, and like most of us, he wanted God's deliverance from his enemies RIGHT NOW! He was broken down by his circumstances and was ready to give up. He was feeling he couldn't take it anymore.
Perhaps we have all been in circumstances or situations where we feel we just can't take it anymore and think how it couldn't get any worse and feeling like it's time for all the mess to stop and lo and behold, it does get worse and it doesn't stop.
The mess prolongs. I hate to say it, but expect it. Not because God is a terrible God but because what we feel is the end of our rope, is not really the end. God will allow us to go beyond what we think is possible to show us that he is the God of impossible! We are more resilient than we think. He tests our faith and trust. It's easy to have faith and trust as long as God's intervention comes in a “timely” manner (“timely manner” means in OUR time and NOT God's time). God's looking for the kind of faith and trust that exist even when it looks as if God has totally abandoned us. True faith is what I want and truth faith is being certain for that which can't be seen. Faith is believing in the impossible.
We can't experience or demonstrate true faith if God always intervenes within our realm of understanding. “Yes, it makes perfect sense for God's intervention now.” That sort of thinking doesn't require hardcore faith. When it looks as if God has abandoned us and life circumstances looks so impossible and can't see rationally how life circumstances will ever get better, that's when true faith kicks in and that's when we get to see God truly at work in seemingly impossible situations.
  • A person loses her job during the pandemic and feels such circumstances are impossible for God, don't give up
  • A death of a loved one, who in our minds was not to be taken by God. The timing was horrible. It's our son or daughter. What's God doing? Don't give up!
  • We lose everything in a fire or tornado or flood. I mean everything! Don't give up! Keep the faith. God is at work. He's still present. He's in control. Keep the faith.

1st Corinthians 10:13 says no temptation has seized us except what is common to people. And God is faithful. He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. But when we are tempted, he will provide a way out so that we can stand up under it.

Romans 8:28 God does work all things for good if we trust him. Such experiences in life help us grow in our faith. They prepare us and equip us for what lies beyond us. They are opportunities to share a testimony of God's love and faithfulness. It's God's chance to help us look more like Jesus and to bring glory to his name. Don't give up!
