Psalms Chapter 87. Are people impressed?
In this chapter God finds favor in Zion. He speaks of it as the holy place. Glorious things are said about Zion, the city of God. Secular cities are even speaking well of Zion. God speaks well of individuals who were born in Zion.
1. God finds favor with the corporate gathering of people, the church.
2. God finds favor with specific individuals who are part of the church.
What would God say about our church where I attend? Do people even know we exist? Are we concerned about those outside the walls of the church or are we concerned just with the people on the inside? Or are we just concerned about ourselves?
What would God say about me? Does he find favor in me? Are the people attracted to my heart? Is my focus put on just me or am I focused on others as well?
This chapter reminds me of Philippians 2:3-8. I'd like to highlight just a few aspects of this passage.
1. We are challenged to not be selfish but value others above ourselves.
2. Don't look just to your own interests but look to the interests of others.
3. Be a servant like Jesus. Be willing to serve others.
4. Be humble before God and others. A humility that results in obedience to God and his will.
Do you want to see outsiders be attracted to you? Do you want to capture the heart of God? Then live out Philippians 2:3-8.
