I loved this chapter.
Psalms Chapter 63. YOU and YOU ONLY!!!
David speaks of God in this chapter as if God is his very very very very very best friend. The words David uses to describe God is how I want to speak and act towards God. I don't want to say that God is my very very very very very best friend. I want my life to demonstrate it. Look at what David says:
1. “You God, are my God.”
David makes it clear, that out of all the gods that exist, he is devoted to just one God and he is the one and only God. There's no other. His allegiance will go to just one God. No other gods of this world can compete. David won't be pulled in different directions of this world and its pleasures.
2. Then David uses words that give a picture of his true allegiance to this one and only God. He says:
—I earnestly seek God.
—I thirst for God.
—I long for God. He says he seeks, thirst, and longs for God like one would in a parched land with no water.
David is seeking hard and strong for God like there is no tomorrow. Think of yourself in a desert in need of water. How hard would you seek for it? Would you be distracted by anything? No! You'd be focused on one thing! Finding water. These are powerful words. That's how I want my relationship with the Lord to be. I want him so bad that nothing is stopping me. Nothing is getting in my way. I'm pursuing God so hard and strong. I don't want to be distracted. It's you, God, that I want! You! You! You! No one and nothing else!
3. David list several aspects of the Lord: His presence, power, Glory, love, help, protection.
4. As a result of such experiences with God, David proclaims his desire to praise God for as long as he lives.
God, this is my heart's desire. It is embedded in my heart. I want you and no one or nothing else. I want to seek you with such great intensity that it makes any other desires look stupid, worthless and meaningless. You God! It's you and you only that I want. And for all you have done for me, I want to praise you for as long as I live. May my heart and lips have an attitude of praise and thanksgiving always!
