Psalm Chapter 1. Two Choices – Life or Death?
This chapter starts off with the word BLESSED. It's a catchy start. It captures your attention right away. Who doesn't want to be BLESSED? God spells out how one can be blessed:
1. Don't get trapped by practicing wickedness or getting sidetracked with sinners, or finding delight with those who mock others.
2. Instead, you find delight in the law of the Lord. You get it? To delight in something is to be consumed with it. It's wanting to be with it. It consumes your thought process. You can't get enough of it. That's the reaction God is looking for from us when it comes to his law or his words. I'm talking about the word of God. You meditate on it always. And as you do, you find that it changes your life. You produce fruit for God! Not only is your life changing, but the lives around you are impacted, so much so, that you begin to see their lives change.
There are two options: Life or Death!
Matthew 7:13-14 re-emphasizes the fact that we have two choices. One leads to destruction and one leads to life. Sadly, the path that leads to destruction is a very common path. In fact more will choose that route than they will the route of life. Many will be deceived and joyfully choose it. Some choose it and hate the fact that they do but are unwilling to forfeit popularity with the world. As a result their spirit dies and is in need of redemption.
There is the path of life, but only a few will find it or choose it. And those that do choose this path understand the consequences. They will face rejection and persecution, and even the possibility of death.
According to Psalm 1:1-6 and Matthew 7 13-14, we have two choices.
1. Destruction: a life apart from God and his Word, or
2. Life: a life consumed with all of who God is which is found in his Word and our obedience to it.
