2nd Chronicles Chapter 4. Excellent or sloppy?
Huram was key in doing the furnishings for King Solomon. He was a skilled worker and he made sure he did a good job. I'm sure it was amazing and beautiful to look at. This chapter reminds me of Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human Masters since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
If only we would truly take these verses to heart when we set out to do a task for ourselves, our spouse, our neighbor, our friend or even our enemy. Think of how awesome and beautiful things would look when completed. There are certain tasks we take great pride in and make sure we do a good job. There are other tasks we put much less value in and we settle for mediocrity and put little care or effort into it. But if we have the attitude that this is for the Lord, we would be seen from others as a hard worker and a person of integrity.
When we had our Fall Festival I taped out lines on the floor marking off the space for each vendor. When someone saw me doing it they said it was a waste of time because people could figure out their space plus they never seen anybody else do it that way. Then when I said I was going to weed the flower bed at our entrance he said it was a waste of time because people don't care about the weeds when they come to the Fall Festival.
The thing is, people do care and they judge your whole Ministry, your life and your integrity based upon how things look or how you handle the little things. Luke 16:10 says “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much and whoever's dishonest with little will also be dishonest with much.”
If I can't trust you to do a good job with all your heart with something little, who's to say you'll do a really good job with a huge task?
If we do an excellent job wanting to please the Lord, then it trickles down and affects how others perceive us: We are hard workers! We do an excellent job! We can be trusted! We are people of integrity! We take pride in our work.
Trust me on this, employers are having a very difficult time finding good workers. Think of how our lives and our work and our reputation would be transformed if we did each task wholeheartedly and as unto the Lord!

I was reminded today of Proverbs 16:3.
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
