Exodus chapter 4.
Once again we see Moses having all kinds of problems believing in the power of God and God's ability to use him. It's definitely something I struggle with. I have to keep reminding myself God doesn't call the qualified he qualifies the called. God truly is a powerful God and can do Mighty things in our lives and through our lives. I want to believe him to do above and beyond what I can imagine or think. The second thing from chapter 4, it says God was about to kill Moses. I didn't understand that because he was obedient to go to Egypt. One commentary said God's anger was towards the fact that Moses was disobedient to God by not having his son circumcised. Which he was supposed to do. Which makes me think how important it is for us to be obedient to God in every area of Our Lives. God is calling Moses to carry out a task, and God's desire is for him to be holy and right before God. God wants a holy vessel to use for Ministry. We can't play around with God! I see great value in the fact that as God has called me into Ministry I must make sure I am Holy and right before him. I should daily evaluate my life and make sure I Surrender everything over to him so I can be a more effective tool for the Lord!

“What is that in your hand?”
God can use us and whatever we have wherever we are, but we need to be obedient and trust Him. Moses didn’t think that he was the right guy for the job just like I think about myself sometimes, but God helped him and God can help us too. I didn’t realize about God almost killing Moses in this chapter before, but that’s what we read! Wow! There came a time later on when God told Moses that He would make a great nation of Moses and God almost wiped out all the Hebrews in Exodus 32:10 when they had made a golden calf. God is patient, but He is also holy and His wrath is a serious matter! God’s directions are not to be ever taken lightly.
First off, the staff turning into a snake , proof enough for me…but then the whole leprosy and blood water thing…..I’m pretty sure if God said go tell pharaoh to “let my people go” I wouldn’t be trying to get out of it.
i didn’t understand why God was going to kill mosses at first …i needed to google search the meaning of this verse
In summary, God was going to kill Moses because Moses was supposed to teach the Israelites God’s Law, yet Moses was not obeying God’s Law himself.
i have a better understanding now.
I so agree with you guys. I think God gives us a valuable lesson as parents here. Our first and foremost ministry is for our own children and family. I also love that Moses is shown to us as a very human, spiritual leader. We have similar flaws of the flesh and can relate.
When God had Moses throw down the staff, was he reminding us to throw down our talents and gifts and see them as they are? God needs to be our passion – not our service to him nor our skills, etc. Only then can we pick up and use our “staff” and give Him the glory.
Moses’ speech impediment – There’s a story about D.L. Moody, an effective but not very polished evangelist. After a service, a lady came up to him and told him she had noticed 18 grammatical errors in his message. Moody replied, “Ma’am, I’m using all the grammar I got for the Lord. What are you doing with yours?”
Like many of you, I feel like I have felt like Moses did in this chapter… “Lord, I am not eloquent” how many times have I made an excuse to not further Gods calling in my life? How many times have I let my human insecurities and concerns dictate how much of myself I give to God and His church and His people? He Is not looking for our excuses!! He knows us better than we know ourselves. How clear it is when he says, isn’t it Him who gives us our mouths to speak and can make us mute ?! Therefore who are we to decide what we are or are not capable of? God wants to use us! He wants us to spread His Kingdom to all the ends of the Earth. I need to evaluate how I am using the gifts He has given me. I need to stop making excuses for why I can’t, and start sharing His good news!
