Genesis Chapter 9 starts with how we are to show respect for God's creation. It ends with a curse upon one of the sons for not having respect for his dad, Noah. Regardless of whether or not Moses drank to get drunk or did so by accident, respect was to be shown to Noah by his sons. One didn't and two did. Respect is something that we are to show one another. I wonder how well we respect our parents or respect our teachers or respect our bosses?

There’s so much in this chapter including the real meaning of the rainbow as a sign of God’s covenant with us. While Noah was a man of faith, we can see that he wasn’t perfect and that there are still consequences for sin in the post flood world. We also read that Noah died at the age of 950. He didn’t live quite as long as Methuselah at 969, but he was up there!

Oops! The link that I shared earlier is for Story of a Squirrel. Sorry about that. I was thinking about using that one, but opted for the other one so I guess now there are 2 for today! I guess God was reminding me along with today’s reading that I make mistakes sometimes too.

I was convicted in today’s devotion to follow Shem and Japheth’s example – to cover the nakedness of others rather than expose it. If I listen to someone else or I talk about sin in another person, it will taint the way I or others view the person. Exposure is damaging, destructive and divisive. We all sin; we all fall short of His Glory. I ask the Lord to help me not speak or listen to negativity. I’ve been forgiven of so much that I should not speak of weakness in my neighbor, pastor, my friends or enemies. Lord, help me to obey and just love.
Wow Jeanine, your comment spoke directly to me and my heart today. How often I uncover those who lie naked so to speak and expose their sins to others when I myself am a sinner who fall short. Why do I expose them? Because I am angry? Because I am jealous? Because I am holding grudges against them? God had favor with Noah. Is exposing someone’s nakedness and not covering it keeping me from a closer walk with God? Thank you for your response and insight.
Yeah Jeanine! I enjoyed your comment and Sarah, thanks for being transparent!
