Hosea Chapter 9. Sin can be fun!
Israel is having fun in sin with much rejoicing and jubilance. God warns them not to find delight in sin because God's punishment will eventually follow.
Hebrews 11:25-26 Moses is called a great man of Faith because he chose to follow the Lord rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He chose disgrace from his enemies for the sake of Christ to be of greater value than the temporary treasures of Egypt because Moses was looking ahead for God's reward rather than the temporary rewards or pleasures found in the world.
Galatians 6:7-8a says that those who strive to please their sinful nature, will eventually reap destruction. Why? Because the pleasures of sin are temporary not eternal. The only thing eternal about sin is the eternal punishment that comes for those who stay in sin rather than turn to the Lord Jesus.
Proverbs 14:12 says there is a way that seems right to a person, but in the end it leads to destruction.
To violate God's laws for one's personal delight doesn't just affect one's own spiritual well-being but is also destructive to a society.
Take for example a male and female who delight in sexual immorality versus being committed to each other and waiting till marriage for their sexual pleasures. Very often the female becomes pregnant and the male leaves the relationship and the woman is left raising the child by herself. These are very sad consequences and affects our societies. It's not God's intent to have one parent raise a child. Structure is hard to maintain with one parent which opens the door for negative behaviors from the children. Which result in a repeat cycle. There's so many homes raised without a father figure.
Take stealing as another example: stealing is popular in stores which causes great loss for a business. And they compensate their losses by raising their prices, which affects the economy. People enjoy stealing because they get it free, but it hurts everybody else. Stealing eventually will lead to the destruction of one's soul.
Temporary pleasures of sin result into eternal punishment.
Where is your heart? Are you focused on the temporary pleasures of sin or are you like Moses that looked past the temporary pleasures and looked forward to the eternal rewards in heaven? Are the choices you make impacting your pleasures or impacting the kingdom of God?
