| Ezekiel Chapter 21. The righteous and unrighteous will suffer. This is the first chapter, that I can recall, where God says when his wrath comes both the righteous and unrighteous will suffer. This made me think about how sin and its consequences hurt both the sinner and the innocent people involved. How consequences hurt both the righteous and the unrighteous. For example: 1) If a father is caught stealing and is arrested, the wife and kids end up facing the same embarrassment and humiliation because of his actions. Oftentimes people make unnecessary judgmental comments about the family which makes matters worse rather than being an encouragement. 2) If a spouse ends up cheating on the other spouse and the sin is found out and exposed, once again, great pain and suffering and humiliation and embarrassment falls on the guilty and the innocent. 3) If a teen daughter becomes pregnant, the whole family is impacted by her and the boyfriend's decision. If we all were able to think before we make poor decisions. If we all were able to look at the short and long-term consequences of our actions, then we'd be less app to give in to the temptations before us. If we could all learn to not value the pleasures of this world over the pleasures of being obedient to the Lord, then we could save a lot of heartache for us and the innocent bystanders. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's too easy to get caught up with the pleasures of this world. God help us all to say no to temptations and yes to obedience to you! |
