Ezekiel Chapter 16. Are you even aware of your sins?

God confronts Jerusalem as an adulterous city because they prostituted themselves so much with their enemies that they were no longer serving God their creator.  Even though he took care of them, they followed other idols. They were worse than prostitutes in that they took no money. As a result, God would hand them over to the very people they prostituted themselves with.
God's wrath would come against Jerusalem. Their sins were so evil, they made their ancestors' sins seem righteous. God said that he would deal with them as they deserved. They would become ashamed and humiliated and aware of their sins.
The key point in God's wrath was the hope of Jerusalem becoming aware of their sins and being ashamed, and humiliated, to the point of repenting of their sins.
That's the key point for us: we need to be aware of our sins and not just be aware and say, “Oh Well!” but become aware to the point of being embarrassed for our sins, being ashamed of our sins, and if need be, become humiliated. So that when all is said and done, we end up repenting of our sins.
Where is our heart? Are we aware of our sins? Do we care? Do we rationalize our sins because we don't want to repent? Or are we desiring to follow the Lord in that we are aware of our sins and are so ashamed that we have made a vow before God to repent of our sins? Not in our own strength but by God's strength!
