| Jeremiah Chapter 40. I'm free to choose my own destination. What I find interesting about this chapter is that when Jeremiah was held captive in Jerusalem, being watched by the commander of the guards in the courtyard, that Jeremiah gained the commander's respect. Even though most everyone else hated Jeremiah and all his prophecies, the guard respected him. He was around Jeremiah often and was able to see he wasn't an anti-God nor an anti-Jew out to cause problems. But rather was a man of integrity and love despite the “negative” prophecies. As a result, the commander of the guard freed Jeremiah and gave him provision to start his new life. He told Jeremiah he could go wherever he planned and Jeremiah chose to live under the leadership of Gedaliah who was appointed by Babylon to oversee and govern the poorest of the Jews left to grow crops in Judah. Jeremiah could have went anywhere, but he chose the place with all the poor people. I'm sure he saw this as a Ministry opportunity. He wasn't looking for the “easy life” but a place of need and opportunity to serve the Lord. Am I a person of integrity that I even gain the respect of those around me? Am I looking for the most comfortable life that requires little of me, or am I making myself available to the Lord to use me however and wherever he wants? Am I willing to get my hands dirty and go outside my comfort zone and help those in need? Just some thoughts. |
