| Jeremiah Chapter 37. Is it worth it? Jerusalem is besieged by Babylon who appoint Zedekiah King over Judah. No one listens to the prophet Jeremiah when he speaks the words from the Lord because he speaks against Judah saying Babylon will destroy them because of their sin. Oddly enough, King Zedekiah actually likes Jeremiah but doesn't want everybody to know it because Jeremiah is so hated by the people. King Zedekiah asks Jeremiah to pray for him and the people. When Babylon left Jerusalem to go fight another battle, Jeremiah left the city to go to the city of Benjamin to get ownership of his property. The guards there, who hated Jeremiah, assumed he was a friend of the Babylonians and arrested, beat, and put him in prison for a long time. King Zedekiah had Jeremiah brought to him so he could secretly ask what the Lord would have to say through him. Jeremiah's message was consistent, Babylon would destroy Jerusalem because of their sin. Jeremiah pleaded with the King not to send him back to prison for he would die there. The king let him be under watch in the courtyard and would not send him back to prison. What's frustrating to me is that your heart can be so loving and so caring when you share the word of God, but some people will overlook your heart and become so hateful against you. Just like they did with Jesus, it will happen to us. I should expect nothing less. But it's hard. Some will respect you but some will hate you. But I want to be faithful to the Lord and his calling no matter what the outcome is. Whether I am accepted, rejected, ridiculed, persecuted, imprisoned, or put to death, I want to be faithful. People need to hear the truth. Is it worth it? Yes, it is! We're talking eternity! |
