Jeremiah chapter 10. Discipline me but not excessively.
God addresses the issue of so many false gods being made from God's creation. These idols have no power. There's truly only one God and that is the Lord God. God declares his coming destruction on those who do not acknowledge Him. Jeremiah sent out a prayer. He prays, “Discipline me for a wrongdoing but do so in a measure I can handle.”
When God disciplines me I go into a sense of despair. We don't want disciplined, but discipline from God is the very thing that works us towards HOLINESS which is essential when having a relationship with the Lord.
Hebrews 12:1-11 is worth reading but verses 10 and 11 say this:
“Parents disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our GOOD, in order that we may share in his HOLINESS. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it PRODUCES A HARVEST OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND PEACE for those who have been trained by it.”
So When God Disciplines Us:
1) It's for our good,
2) It produces Holiness in us, and
3) It results in a harvest of Righteousness and Peace.
I don't like discipline but I need it.
