Jeremiah Chapter 8. Don't be Stupid!
God is frustrated with his people because they have totally rejected him without acknowledging their sins. They act as if nothing is wrong and claim to be wise. But in reality, they're foolish because they reject true wisdom. True wisdom comes from God and to reject God is to reject wisdom. So to claim to have wisdom without God is to be deceived. Such wisdom is foolish before God.
Just because someone wears a suit and tie or dresses with a nice fancy dress or blouse, and just because they hold a prestige position at work, doesn't mean they are wise or more wise than God.
A child who understands a relationship with Christ is wiser than the lawyer without God. A child's wisdom will save him or her but a lawyer's wisdom does nothing to save him from his sins while he is rejecting God and God's truth (wisdom).
1 Corinthians 3:18-19A says, “Let no one deceive themselves. If anyone among you thinks that they are wise in this world, let them become foolish so that they can become wise for the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.”
We are told to become foolish so we can become wise which means we need to empty ourselves of all of our so-called wisdom so we end up looking like a fool. Once we are emptied of our so-called wisdom we can then begin to fill ourselves with God's wisdom so that we become truly wise.
What and whose wisdom are we trying to consume ourselves with? Our wisdom? The world's wisdom? Or God's wisdom? If we aren't consumed with God's Word and surrounding ourselves with God's influence, then we are fooling ourselves with a false wisdom. So don't be stupid, pursue God.
