Isaiah chapter 7. I don't want to be a Christian.
King Ahaz of Judah is it going to be invaded by Syria and Israel. King Ahaz is an evil King and has nothing to do with God. He's afraid of Syria and Israel. God sends Isaiah the prophet to tell King Ahaz to trust Him because he will deliver him from them. King Ahaz finds that hard to believe because he knows how powerful his enemies are. Isaiah tells King Ahaz to ask the Lord for a sign so that he might believe. King Ahaz says he will not ask the Lord for a sign because he doesn't want to put the Lord to test. But in reality he did not want to ask the Lord because he feared that if the Lord would prove himself true that he would have to believe in God rather than in the power of other nations. King Ahaz did not want to have to say there was a God.
It's just like today: people are walking in sin and are miserable, worry, and some hate life. You share Jesus with them but they refuse to believe because they don't want to have to give up their sinful ways. They would rather say I don't believe in God so they can continue in sin, than say there is a God and have to repent from that which they enjoy.
Sad thing is, a relationship with Jesus is to have real joy and real life. But people are easily deceived by the devil when he says living in sin is the real joy and real life.
