Proverbs chapter 23. I'M TRAPPED AND CAN'T GET OUT!
There are thought processes that can consume us so much that we become misled and trapped in them. Proverbs 23 mentions a few:
Gluttony, women, alcohol, money, hopelessness.
Satan does a very good job in getting us no longer focused on Christ but focused on things that bring temporary pleasures or we become convinced that life is so bad it's not worth living for. Once we get trapped in a thought process or habit, it's very difficult to get out of it.
*) Gluttony – Money – Inappropriate Relationships / Porn – Alcohol are all things that we turn to in order to help overcome feelings of fear, pain, anxiety, false hopes, etc. They provide temporary pleasures but result in a trapped life where we are no longer focused on the Lord.
A Christian friend of mine makes a habit out of buying lottery tickets to the point where he honestly believes that it's his best option for having a retirement plan.
It's great to have a plan or goals for our lives. But if God's not in them, or he's not our primary focus, then we're headed down a slippery evil slope.
CHALLENGE:
Take a hard look at yourself. What are you trapped in?
-Surrender it to Christ.
-Be empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome that which takes our focus off from the Lord.
-Get help if needed so you can be set free.
John 8:31b-32 Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. Then you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.”
