Psalms Chapter 147. How quickly we forget.
The psalmist speaks of the many things God does for his people: heals, sustains, provides for, give strength to, gives peace, feeds them.
Then the closing comment is: God does so much for his people and yet they don't know his Laws.
It sounds so much like today with Christians. God does so much and yet Christians today aren't aware of God's laws, or not choosing to follow them. It seems fewer Christians are reading God's WORD in order to stay connected. Instead we have turned into a society where we claim there is no sin. We don't want to confront anyone because that may offend them and hurt their feelings.
Jesus spoke truth and offended people. Being offensive can be very disrespectful but it can also be a very loving gesture. For example:
-if I confront a Christian friend about their lifestyle in a loving manner, I do so, not to offend them but to see them restored into a right relationship with the Lord. They might take it as an offense but the hope and prayer is to restore them back to the Lord.
-if I really love someone then I have to take risks and speak truth into their lives and point them back to Jesus in hopes they repent of their sins and get right with God.
-to say you love someone and yet say nothing to point them back to the Lord can't be real love. If they die in their sin and spend eternity in hell, then how did you really help them? Your acceptance of their sin, and your silence because you didn't want to offend them, only encourages them to stay in sin.
-I want people to lovingly confront me when I need it because I know that means they love me. So I want to do the same for others. Jude 23 says to snatch those in the fire to save them.
Snatching people from a fire today means loving them but also loving them enough to lovingly point them from sin and into a right relationship with Jesus. Hope that makes sense.
