Psalms chapter 138. Am I willing?
The psalmist says, “For the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly but the lofty ones, he is far from them.”
I'm reminded of 1st Corinthians 1:26-29 which says,
“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise. Not many were influential. Not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are so that no one may boast before him.”
We are captured into the lies of this world. We listen to the devil's voice that says you are not “good enough” nor “smart enough”. You aren't qualified enough. You're too young or you're too old. You aren't this or that!
In first Samuel chapter 16:7 it says that God doesn't look at the outward appearance but at the heart.
A willing heart is what God uses. He doesn't call the qualified, but qualifies the called. This should encourage us because I feel most people are hard on themselves. We let ourselves listen to the lies and as a result miss opportunities to serve the Lord.
God chose an eight-year-old to rule as king over Jerusalem. God chose young David to smite Goliath. God chose David, the youngest son, to be king. God chose 12 common people, the disciples, to change literally the whole world. He's looking for our willing heart.
When you surrender your willing heart to God, trust him to choose you for a task, then be obedient to follow his call. Rather than listening to the lies.
