Psalms Chapter 137. “I remember when I used to be active with my faith.”
Psalms Chapter 137 is all about Jerusalem being held captive by their enemies in a foreign land. They have ceased to sing praises to the Lord. They long for the days when they were in Jerusalem serving the Lord.
Perhaps we all have gone through similar days when we remember how we used to serve the Lord. We remember being active with our faith. We read the Word of God. We prayed. We were committed to the church. We were active. We were involved in Ministry and outreach. We did this and we did that. We remember it like it was yesterday and there's a part of us that yearns for it again. But something happened. We were hurt by the church. God didn't answer one of our prayers. We got busy with new responsibilities of life.  We got distracted by our peers. We allowed ourselves to get sucked into a worldly pleasure and before we knew it, our faith had diminished. We think about it often, but we're trapped in this world and can't get out.
Let me say, even when we are in the darkest pit, God still loves us. No matter what we have done or where we've been, God loves us. His forgiveness is available. He is waiting for us to turn to him with a broken heart.
Psalms 51 vs 1-3, 17 says, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
4 Suggestions:
1. Turn to God with a broken heart and he will sustain you.
2. Have people of accountability. That's why I like our group. It helps keep me focused on the Lord.
3. Stay involved in the church. What a great place to be in fellowship with other believers while serving the Lord.
4. Surround yourself with positive Christian people. 1st Corinthians 15:33 says, “Do not be misled, bad company corrupts good morals.”
The people you hang out with are the people you become like.
Have a great day!
