Psalms chapter 116. What could I give to the Lord?
The psalmist was so full of love for the Lord when he called to the Lord for help and God saved him.
The psalmist was so full of love that he asked, What could I give in return for what the Lord has done for me?
That's a great question, one we should all be asking. “God, what could I give to you because of all you've done for me?”
To me it's a great question because it's a great opportunity to give to God the very thing that would bring great Glory to his name! So, what could we give to God because of all He's done for us? What would God want from us that would open the door for his Holy Spirit to work? The very thing God desires of us is a broken and contrite heart, which means:
1. Recognizing our sins and wanting to repent.
2. Being so humble before God.
3. It's an expression of, “I can't do it anymore God, I need your help!”
4. It's the very thing that captures the heart and attention of God.
5. It's a very thing that draws God to us for healing, forgiveness, and transformation.
Read these two passages found in Psalms:
Psalms 51:16-17  “You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.  My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.”
God is not looking for the person who says, I will go to church, I will pray over meals, I will pray at night before I go to bed, etc. God is not looking for something that makes us look “religious”. He wants something much deeper. He's looking for our heart. Not just our heart but a broken and contrite heart because that's what enables him to draw near to us and work in and through our lives.
Psalms 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Everyday I want to be able to say, I need you Lord! I can't survive without you! I'm a sinner. I need your Holy Spirit to forgive me, heal me, and change my life. Let there be a transformation, so much so, I'm able to impact lives for you.
