Psalms chapter 81. To whom or to what have you given your heart?
Good morning my good friends!
This chapter starts off with a command, and perhaps even a challenge for us, to be active with how we respond to God. That which is your God is that which you will give your attention to. So if the Lord God is our God, then the command or challenge is to give attention to him by singing for Joy, shouting loudly to him, playing musical instruments for him. In other words it's taking time to stop and praise him. He is worthy of our praises and our attention. So how much attention do we give the Lord God? Are we praising him? Are we thanking him? Are we stopping and spending time with him in the Word or with prayer?
Or are we like Israel In this passage and we are giving our attention to something or someone else? Because that something or someone else is our real god. That which is your real god is not based upon what you say with your mouth but what you declare with your heart. Who or what have we really given our hearts to?
If our hearts are actually given to someone or something else, then how long before God says, “Okay, I'm going to let you go and let you pursue your god and my blessings will stop. And when you decide to listen and follow me again, I will bless you again and take care of your needs.”
