Psalms chapter 76. What are you afraid of?
Good morning everyone.  We have finished the first half of the book of Psalms and now starting the second half.  I'm excited!
Fear is spoken of in the Scriptures. That which you fear ends up consuming you. It grabs all your energy and your thought process and your time. Satan is the author of fear for he desires to control us with worry and fret. The devil wants us to be consumed with worry so that we lose focus of God. 1st Peter 5:8 tells us to be careful because the devil is looking for someone to devour. His intent is to destroy us and kill us.
But God sent Jesus not so that we are consumed with fear but so that we have life and have it abundantly John 10:10. God does ask for our fear but it's different. To have a fear for God is to result into a positive outcome versus negative. As I said, Satan's goal is to destroy us but God's goal is to give us life and peace and comfort. John 14:27.
To fear God is to have a respect for God. This respect is more than just a respect for the fact that he has power to give us life or death. The respect goes deeper. It's respecting the nature of God. It's respecting all who God is.
—It's respecting his holiness to the point that we want to be holy.
—It is to respect his love so that we want to love.
—It's respecting his wisdom so that we want his wisdom.
—It's respecting His kindness so we want to be kind.
So what consumes us?  Fear from the devil? Affecting our minds so that we lose the peace of God. Our faith and trust dwindles. Our lives end up becoming consumed with worry and fret.
Or are we consumed with fear and respect for God so that we see life with abundance? A fear for God doesn't result in worry and fret but results in gaining more and more of who God is. It's gaining his wisdom Proverbs 9:10 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
He wants to fill us with his holy spirit and wisdom and power and peace and comfort.
It starts with a respect and fear for who God is, so much so, that we are consumed with God and want more and more of who God is. Thus resulting in a life of abundance bringing glory to his name. It's a humbling fear. It brings us to our knees recognizing our need for God.
Psalm 27:1 the Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I Fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
What are you afraid of?
