Psalms Chapter 73. Temptations destroy.
The psalmist recognizes there are temptations surrounding us. We'd be very wise to recognize them ourselves so we are not gradually sucked away from our allegiance to our God. Seeing the arrogant and wicked ones prosper was a temptation for the psalmist, but he maintained his innocence. May we come to the same conclusion as the psalmist did:
1. A life that enjoys the pleasures of this world over a relationship with the Lord results in the destruction of one's soul. Matthew 16:24-26 Jesus said in order to become one of his disciples it requires denying oneself, taking up one's cross daily and following him. To save one's life in order to not suffer for Jesus is to lose one's life. To lose one's life for Jesus and the Gospel is to save it in the end in heaven. There's no profit in gaining all the pleasures of this world only to lose one's soul in the end in hell. Jesus is coming back one day for judgment. Are we ready?
2. There is nothing in this world that is worth loving over our God. In Romans 1:23-25, God condemns those who worshiped created things verses worshiping the Creator of all things, the Lord God. The outcome of such a life is death, verse 32.
So what is Satan tempting us with today? Is it worth it? Is it worth losing our soul over? Do you love God with everything or do you love the created things over the Creator?
