Psalms Chapter 72. A parent's prayer for their child.
This chapter is a prayer of David for his son Solomon. David's prayer is that Solomon would be a great king. Specific things he prays for are that:
– Solomon would be a king who judges his people with righteousness and justice.
– Solomon would defend the afflicted and help the needy and weak.
– Solomon would crush the oppressors.
– Solomon would endure a long time as king.
– Solomon would be respected by the people and other kings.
The prayers of a parent for their children are different than prayers for others. Not that prayers for other people are not meaningful, it's just that the connection with your children are stronger or different than others.
How do you pray for your children? What's most important to you for them?
I pray for my children, who are now adults and married with at least one child. So now when I pray for them, I pray also for their spouses and kids.
I pray for their finances, their jobs, their protection, their marriages.
But that which is most important to me is their relationship with Christ. That Christ will be number one. That their pursuit for Jesus wood never be with contentment. That they would hunger and thirst for him more and more, not just for themselves, but for the whole family.
Secondly, I pray that they would impact lives for Jesus. They would be a light in a dark world. Evangelism would be a desire in their heart in reaching lost souls for Jesus.
