Psalm Chapter 29. Who is Greater than our God?
Vs. 2 – “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name.”
Seriously? Can we really do that? The glory God deserves is beyond us. But, even though we greatly fall short of what he deserves, we can make it a practice to exalt him more daily, to praise His name more often, be more thankful for the blessings of each day. God is worthy of ALL our praises and Thanksgiving. He deserves it.
Vs. 4 – “The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is majestic.”
No one or nothing can even compare to the power and Majesty of our God. Who can speak and cause all of creation to listen? Who can speak and make our oceans roar, or lightning thunder, or the earth quake? Who can speak life into a baby? Or feed the animals and fish of the sea? Knowing God is Almighty and powerful should drive us to want to Revere Him more as well as take everything to God in prayer. Who better to pray to than the God who created us and loves us and cares about our every needs (Philippians 4:6).
Vs. 11 – The Lord gives strength and peace to his people.
Each day has its challenges. Challenges often result in frustration or despair. If we could let the Holy Spirit change our attitude, we could see each challenge as an OPPORTUNITY to show God's power and strength for our lives. They are opportunities to trust God for his intervention. Let us listen to his voice and know he'll give us the grace needed to get through each day and we can be confident and have peace that HE'LL work things out. The alternative is to listen to the voice of our enemy, the devil, who puts fear in our minds and worry and doubt and lies.
Thank you God for all the opportunities to trust you and see you at work in and through our lives and our life circumstances. Help me to take everything to you in prayer and to give you praise and thanksgiving much much much much more often. Amen.
Thank you!

This chapter gave some description of the power of the voice of the Lord, but I’m sure that it has just barely scratched the surface.
I thought back to Exodus 3 and how Moses heard the voice of the Lord from a bush that didn’t burn up after he had run away from Egypt years before. Elijah also heard the voice of the Lord after he had run away from Jezebel. I think that another example is when Peter had run away from Jesus and in John 21, we see that he went back to fishing as Jesus comes along, made some breakfast, and told him to feed His sheep. All three of these guys were probably afraid and felt that they had blown it, but God still wanted to use each of them in some way. Even when we might feel like we’re all washed up and unable to serve the Lord, He can still use us. We need to listen for His voice and obey.
Here’s a passage that we read about Elijah’s experience with God’s voice in 1 Kings 19:11-13.
And He said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
