Job chapter 35. Get ready to be stretched!!!!!!!!!
Elihu continues to attack some of the words of Job. He confronts his seemingly self-righteous attitude and confronts Job's questioning of God. Elihu seems to speak words that are humbling words for Job.
I have found that, working at Edinboro Camp, I have more weaknesses than I'd like to admit. I have stepped into an arena with new challenges. I have had more confrontations in these last three years than I had in the 12 previous years as a youth pastor. Challenges and confrontations can be very humbling because they reveal one's weaknesses and shortcomings. They can become very overwhelming to the point of great distress.
It's not fun being stretched but it's important to be stretched. Whether we are stretched because of overwhelming circumstances or we are stretched because of someone's confrontation, we must be strong enough to humbly accept what is laid before us because it will help us grow. Throwing in the towel usually only delays one's growth opportunity.
I have learned through stretching moments to rely more on God and less on myself. It's help me grow and develop more in the fruits of the spirit! It has stretched my knowledge base so I become an even wiser person in dealing with difficult situations. It's help me to rely more on other people and be a stronger communicator. So may we see benefit when spiritually stretched, without giving up. I think of what Paul said in 2nd Corinthians 1:8-11
“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-11
