Job Chapter 18. Investing into the lives of others!
Bildad responds to Job's words and it's obvious he is frustrated. He confronts Job for telling his comforters that basically they are giving stupid advice. And once again he tells Job that his wickedness is the cause of his misfortune.
Must be Bildad feels he has an edge over Job because Job is suffering and he is not. It's easy to feel self-righteous when things are going well and one feels ever so “Blessed” by God. It's easy to look down on others when one is seemingly “Blessed” and the other has nothing.
It's even easier to look down on another when you feel they're living in misfortune because of their own fault or because of the result of their own choices.
We don't know the heart of another. We don't know the challenges they have faced in life. We don't know how much time they've tried and failed. We don't know how much a parent has screamed down their back that they're NO GOOD! We don't know how much encouragement they've never gotten.
All we see is the end result. You see a person living with an unfortunate life. We draw our own conclusions.
We say they got themselves there and Snub them off while God is saying I have placed this person in your life. This person needs grace mercy and love. They need long-term encouragement. They need someone who will invest into their life and help bring out their gifts and talents. They need a teacher and a friend and not a self-righteous arrogant fool.
Be careful the conclusions you draw about another person. Get to know them. Invest into them. Encourage them. Love them unconditionally and see if God doesn't begin to bring His Light of Hope into their lives through you.
I've seen it work even with the smallest investment.
When I used to go to the Junior Senior High School in Corry 5 days a week in the morning, almost every morning I would see two students: one male and one female. They seemed to be without friends walking alone. I made a point to smile and say good morning every time I saw them. At first they never acknowledged me and made no eye contact. But with persistence and overtime they begin to make eye contact, say hello and even smile. One even stopped and talked to me.
I'm reminded of James 2:2-4, 14-17 how God is all about challenging us to help the needy. We're not to show favoritism. We're to meet their needs versus snubbing them. We're to invest into the lives of others. Our faith is demonstrated when we are active and God accuses one of having no faith when they are self righteous and inactive.
