First Chronicles chapter 9. Slave or Free?
Another beautiful morning!
A record of all the genealogies have been completed and the final statement was …”they were held captive because of their unfaithfulness.”
- To be unfaithful to the Lord is to be walking in sin.
- Sin is what breaks our relationship with the Lord and causes us to be held captive.
- If we aren't walking with the Lord because of something or someone in this world is more enticing, then we are prisoners to that which we are consumed to. It is our IDOL.
John 8:34 Jesus said everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.
2nd Timothy 2:26 talks about those who are held captive by the devil to do his will.
Isaiah 61:1 speaks of a Savior who will bring liberty and captive and freedom to prisoners.
John 8:31-32 states that Jesus is the one who will set us free and once Jesus sets us free we will be free indeed.
Galatians 5:1 says once you're free then stand firm in your faith and freedom so that you don't end up becoming slaves again to sin.
- Sadly, the world thinks that if we get to do whatever we want then we're free. Everyone wants to be free to do whatever they please. Sadly though, what's really happening is they are prisoners to their so-called freedom or sin. They don't realize, to walk free from Christ is to walk in bondage. It is to become a prisoner to that which they are consumed with. It is that which holds them captive.
- The only way we can be set free from the bondage of sin is to have a true relationship with Christ. He sets us free from sin and we become free indeed. Then we can't lose focus of our walk with Christ because once we lose focus then we put ourselves at risk of becoming slaves to the same sin again.
- The Bible says to stand firm in our faith. This advice will be a strong factor in helping us so we don't become slaves to sin again.
What sin are we struggling with? What in this world is holding us captive so that we have become unfaithful to the Lord?
Give it to Jesus and let the power of the Holy Spirit empower you so you can walk in true freedom.
I was reminded once again today of what we read in Romans 8:1-2.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
