2nd Kings chapter 24. Why am I so slow to learn?
God's destruction comes to Jerusalem and Judah because of their sin. He told them far enough ahead of time that it was going to happen because they did not repent from their evil. So Babylon invaded and took over Jerusalem and took their King as a slave. Then they took the old king's uncle and made him King. Judah was very slow to learn. So much destruction had come upon them that you would have thought the new king would say WE MUST REPENT AND TURN BACK TO THE LORD. But instead, the king keeps doing evil. Why was Judah so slow to learn? The real question is why am I so slow to learn?
Destruction can come upon us if we don't repent, because God loves us and will allow destruction to come in hopes that we repent and return to him 100%.
1. I don't want destruction to come. I want to be aware of my sin and repent immediately and not wait for destruction to come.
2. I want to be free from the bondage of sin so I can serve the Lord faithfully and with power.
3. God forgive me of all sin so that nothing interferes with my walk with you. Also empower me to do the work that you have called me to do. Amen
We can see the consequences of making poor choices when we read this chapter. Sin is harmful and the results are never pretty! Our sin doesn’t only affect ourselves, but it can adversely affect others as well. May we choose to walk by the Spirit daily and let the desires of the flesh be crucified. I was reminded of two Bible passages that I’m sharing today.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Everyone then who hears these words of Mine (Jesus) and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Galatians 5:16-26
“But I (Paul) say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
Sin always separates us from God. That’s why it’s called grace. Grace is something that we don’t deserve. Anytime we fail God and people around us God always forgives us from what we did wrong. In the book of Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life to Jesus Christ our Lord. When we are Christians we fall short but God. We have our flesh and the flesh wants us to fall away from God but when we’re in God and living for Him were no longer in the flesh but in God.
