Another great morning!
2nd Samuel chapter 22.
This is the song that David sang when God delivered him from his enemies. There are some common themes that come from this song.
- God is referred to as our Rock five times. Our refuge or safe place four times. Our shield two times. Our Savior who saves us 5 times. He is strong and very capable to bring us victory.
- God hears us and is very capable of responding. Nothing can hold him back.
- God equips us for battle and destroys our enemies. He gives us victory.
- We must learn to praise him when he works in our lives.
In essence, God wants to hear from us when we are in need or in trouble. He will respond and help us in our need and will give us victory. And when he does we need to give him praise.
I feel all too often I fail to turn things over to the Lord plus I try and take control myself. And when God does respond to my need, all too often I don't Thank or Praise Him.

This is a chapter that I would expect to be reading in Psalms, but it was good to find in 2 Samuel today.
It contained lots of encouraging reminders with verse 29 standing out to me the most.
“For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.”
In this chapter, David shares with us many truths about God – He is saving, worthy of praise, hearing, angry (against enemies), rescuing, rewarding, seeing, faithful, revealing himself, shrewd, powerful, strong, perfect, pure, flawless, shielding (us from enemies), giving, gentle, preserving, living, etc. This chapter is almost identical to Psalm 18. It is probably recorded here in 2 Samuel as part of King David’s history and in Psalm 18 as a prophecy of Jesus Christ.
David isn’t saying that he is sinless but that he is righteous because of God. He reminds us that we too are righteous because of Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross. Satan’s favorite weapon is condemnation but we can overcome him by the truth in God’s Word. Thank you, Lord!
